Executive Summary
The Problem
Te Ao Māori News wanted to grow its social media audience, but its posts and videos weren't getting much engagement. The content was often difficult to read, there was no consistent design style, and the videos lacked strong covers or titles to encourage people to stop scrolling.
My Goal
My goal was to create a more consistent look across Facebook and Instagram and develop content that was easier to read, more engaging, and better suited to the people Te Ao Māori News wanted to reach. The project also aimed to increase engagement, grow followers, and drive more traffic to the website.
What I Did
I started by researching the audience and creating user personas to understand who the content was being created for. I then looked at how other news organisations presented their content and identified ways Te Ao Māori News could improve its social media presence.
Using this research, I created a series of social media posts and reel designs with a consistent visual style, clearer typography, stronger headlines, and more engaging layouts. I also developed content ideas around Māori culture, current affairs, community stories, and business promotion.
The Outcome
The project gave Te Ao Māori News a more consistent and professional social media presence, along with a set of reusable templates and content ideas for future posts and reels. Engagement Rate 4% on Instagram and 2% on Facebook. Increasing followers by 5-10% and increasing link clicks by 200 per week.
What I Learned
This project shows that good social media content doesn't need to be complicated. If people can quickly understand what they're looking at and why it matters, they're much more likely to engage with it.
